Starting Your Cycling Journey? Here’s A Must-Have Starter Pack

One of the most beneficial sports that you can take up, aside from walking and jogging, is cycling. Whether it’s for leisure, for competition, or with a weight loss goal in mind, cycling is the way to go.

There are a number of benefits to be had from taking up the habit of cycling. You may think that it’s only a physical sport, but there’s way more to it than that.

Cycling does all these (and more!):

  • Improves your mental health
  • Gives you the freedom to eat a bit more without guilt
  • Reduces the risk of heart disease
  • Strengthens your lungs
  • Saves you time and gas money
  • Boosts your brain power
  • Helps you sleep better

Now, you may already know about some of these benefits and probably have already started on your journey. But for those of you who are considering it, here are three things that should be at the top of your must-have starter pack checklist:

1.The right bike — This is, of course, the most important thing and it’s heavily dependent on your reason for taking up the sport, as well as whether you’re male or female.

If you’ve ever researched, you’d find that there’s a large variety of bicycles. You can choose from mountain bikes to track bikes to BMX or whichever one best suits you.

2. The right gear — The second most important thing on your checklist should be the type of outfit you wear to go on your rides. Again, this is going to depend on many things, including the type of weather condition you’ll be riding through.

Luckily, with the right cycle apparel store, you can find everything you need, including bib shorts, suits, vests, jackets, and other accessories. A little tip: look for a supplier of premium quality, fast-drying, cool fabrics so you can ride in comfort.

3. Lots of energy — Even though cycling is a low-impact sport, you still need a great deal of energy, especially if you’re going to be trekking through rough terrains for a long time.

One way of boosting your energy is to ensure you’re eating the right foods. Try whole grains, fruits, veggies, and coconut water. The latter supplies you with energy and keeps you hydrated!

Naturally, there’s a lot more preparation that is needed if you’re just starting out, like knowing how to ride a bike (duh!). However, with the three things I mentioned in check, you’ll be ready to go in no time!
